Local Records Centres in the East of England

BRIE is working closely with other Local Records Centres (LRCs) in the region to develop a records centre for Essex that provides a service comparable to the services already available in other counties in the East of England. Recent projects have been developed with a view to standardising these services across the region, and providing a better service to data users.

A Code of Conduct for how Local Records Centres deal with data has been developed for the East of England region by staff at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Environmental Records Centre link. A copy of the regional Code of Conduct can be accessed here.

The new Standard Minimum Service for consultants: A new regional standardised enquiry service for environmental consultants was launched by the region’s Local Records Centres (LRCs) at the start of April 2011. One of three projects to come out of the Natural England Review of LRCs in the East of England, the new service covers Bedfordshire & Luton, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, and will also include Essex once BRIE is established.

The Standard Data Enquiry Service:
• Includes records of species of conservation concern.
• Includes a map of statutory and non-statutory site boundaries
• Does not incur a charge if no records are found
• Is completed within 10 working days (usually sooner)
• Includes the most recent data held by the LRC, with a metadata statement (information about the data itself) available on each LRC website.
• Presents information in user-specified format.
• Provides records from the adjacent county (within the region) with no further charge if the search area spans the boundary.

The Standard Minimum Service launched on the 1st April 2011. Details of what is covered by this service are available to view/download here:
