Essex Recording Groups

These organisations have an active recording calendar in a variety of sites around Essex. If you're interested in a particular group of species and would like to learn more from experienced recorders/surveyors, contact your local recording group.

Cambridgeshire & Essex Butterfly Conservation  This regional branch of Butterfly Conservation compiles butterfly records for Essex and Cambridgeshire and holds regular outdoor events, including recording field trips and work parties.

Colchester Natural History Society  This active society brings together naturalists of various expertise. They hold regular outdoor field trips and an indoor programme of illustrated talks over the autumn, winter and spring.

Epping Forest Badger Group  This group aims to promote, survey and monitor badgers in Epping Forest District. They have a programme of outdoor trips and indoor meetings.

Essex Bat Group  This group runs a series of bat walks and training activities.

Essex Biodiversity Project  Essex Biodiversity Project works to preserve and enhance biodiversity in Essex through the delivery of the Essex Biodiversity Action Plan. Recording projects focusing on the BAP species and habitats are ongoing.

Essex Birdwatching Society  This group holds evening and field meetings within Essex and beyond.

Essex Field Club  This is a society for wildlife enthusiasts and people with an interest in the natural history and geology of Essex. Regular field meetings are held, often focusing on particular interests or species groups.

The Essex Rock and Mineral Society  This group holds regular evening lectures and outdoor field visits in Essex and beyond.

The Essex Wildlife Trust  This organisation holds regular wildlife events and training throughout Essex.

Hainault Forest  This website, maintained by a local enthusiast, holds details of wildlife events taking place.

North East Essex Badger Group  This group aims to promote the protection of wildlife, particularly badgers, in north east Essex. They carry out a range of activities.

South Essex Natural History Society  This society aims to further the study and conservation of flora and fauna, particularly in South Essex. It holds indoor meetings and outdoor field visits.

Uttlesford Badger Group  This group aims to encourage the study and protection of badgers and their habitat within Uttlesford. They carry out a range of activities.

Wakering and District Natural History Society  This society holds outdoor meetings and activities and indoor meetings during autumn, winter and spring.
